The Executive of the Music Festival is delighted to announce that Matthew Harris has been appointed as conductor of the Concert Band for a three-year term.
Matthew is well-known to members of the Orchestra of previous festivals as its popular Assistant Conductor.
Matthew is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and conductor based in Christchurch. His musical career began at the age of eight as a chorister of the ChristChurch Cathedral Choir and has since gone on to perform with groups such as the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the NZSO National Youth Orchestra, the National Youth Brass Band, the New Zealand Youth Symphonic Winds and the Tallis Scholars.
Matthew is currently the Musical Director of All Souls Anglican Church and holds conducting roles with Nor’ West Brass, the Christchurch School of Music Friday Youth Band, Burnside High School and the UC Christchurch Youth Orchestra.
Matthew is currently studying at the University of Canterbury and he hopes to pursue a career in music after graduating.
