Senior Representative Choir
Calendar of Rehearsals & Performances
ALL rehearsals & performances are compulsory. In order to accept a place in the Senior Choir you must be able to attend ALL of these rehearsals & performances.

Saturday Rehearsals
Attendance is compulsory
Dates: Saturday, 29 August; 5, 12 , 19 September; 17, 31 October
Time: 1 – 3.30pm
Venue: Avonhead School Hall, 55 Avonhead Rd
Please note: All rehearsals start and finish at the stated time – please arrange your transport around this so that you are not late arriving OR being collected!
Holiday Course
Attendance is compulsory
Dates: Monday – Wednesday 28 – 30 September
Time: 9 – 2.30pm each day (Report at 8.45am)
Venue: Avonhead School
Please note: We require the assistance of teachers or of parents of children attending the Holiday Course to help supervise the children during their two 30-minute breaks on each day of the course. Click here for more details
Dress Rehearsals
Attendance is compulsory for both rehearsals
Date: Monday 2 November
Time: 9.30 – 2.30pm (bring lunch and snacks)
Venue: Christchurch Town Hall

Date: Tuesday 3 November
Time: 9.30 – 12pm

Performance Nights
Attendance is compulsory for all four evenings
Dates: Tuesday – Friday, 3 – 6 November
Reporting Time: by 6pm
Collection Time: 9.20pm
Conductor
The conductor of the Senior Choir is Joshua McGirr.
Josh has been playing trumpet since he was 12 and singing in choirs since the beginning of his schooling life. He has been a member of the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir under the directorship of Andrew Withington and also a member of the National Youth Choir under the directorship of David Squire travelling internationally with both choirs. As well as being an Associate Conductor with the Festival, Josh is also the Senior Choir Special Vocal Tutor. He has also previously held the roles of conductor of the Chisnallwood Intermediate Choir and Co-Musical Director of the Christchurch Boys’ Choir. Outside of Josh’s musical life, he is employed full-time as an I.T. Technical Specialist.
Joshua is assisted by pianist Matthew Oswin.
