The conductor of the Concert Band is Chris Petch.

A former graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Chris is Head of Music and Director of the Specialist Music Programme (SMP) at Burnside High School where he also directs the school’s Big Band and Symphonic Wind Band and teaches Low Brass. Chris has worked as a freelance trombonist with the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Opera North, Hallé Orchestra, and in session work for the BBC and Granada TV. Since arriving in New Zealand, Chris has tutored the brass sections of the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Orchestra, the Christchurch Youth Orchestra and the Christchurch Youth Jazz Orchestra. Chris is a regular casual player with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, a founding member of Christchurch Symphonic Brass and a member of the Symposium Jazz Orchestra.

Holiday Course

Attendance is compulsory
Dates: 1 October – 3 October
Venue: M5, Burnside High School, Music Department
Time: 9.00 – 12.30pm each day (Report 15min before start time)

Please note We require the assistance of teachers or of parents of children attending the Holiday Course to help supervise the children during their 30-minute break on each day of the course. Click here for more details
