Programme of songs for massed choirs

This year’s theme is “Whatever the Weather”.

Musical Director Patrick Shepherd and his team have devised an interesting and varied programme which seeks to both educate and entertain as well as showing off the talents of the choirs, concert band and symphony orchestra – nearly four thousand children from around Canterbury!

Some of the songs will be very familiar to you, some will be totally new but hopefully there is something there for everyone! The Music Team has been looking long and hard since before last year’s festival took place to find the right songs and we hope that you enjoy singing them.

Here are the massed choir songs for “Whatever the Weather!“:

Singin’ In The Rain/Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head – Arthur Freed & Nacio Herb Brown/Katrina and the Waves (musical/movie/pop)
Give Me a Kite – Andy Beck (modern art song)
I Can See Clearly Now – Johnny Nash (70s pop/90s movies)
Blue Skies – Irving Berlin (jazz/movie)
Purea Nei – Traditional, arr. Hirini Melbourne (NZ Maori)
Sing Your Song! – Patrick Shepherd (2017 Festival commission)
Africa – Toto (80s rock)
Summertime – George and Ira Gershwin (classical opera)
In the Bleak Midwinter/Winter Wonderland – Gustav Holst/Felix Bernard & Richard B. Smith (classical/jazz)
Weather With You – Crowded House (NZ pop)
